The Kalash cosmology is polytheistic with a single creator and a pantheon of lesser gods and spirits. Traditionally the dead are buried above ground in carved wooden boxes. A friend that had been visiting the Kalash for the past 18yrs had told me that she had heard there was a six-year-old boy among the Kalash that had been discovered to have shamanic abilities and was being mentored by an elder Kalash Shaman. As it turned out the ‘boy’ is now thirty years old. His mentor was his father.
