When I am making a portrait usually the first thing I do is take a Polaroid. This not only gives me an image to give to my subject but allows me to make sure my strobe is balanced with the ambient light and that my camera and lenses are functioning properly. One of the main problems with the Polaroid is that everyone wants one. In fact, Polaroids are the bulkiest item I carry.
